Letter from the Chairman 2011
The games of 2010 were again highly successful, the weather was almost perfect, the attendance was excellent despite the financial climate and the weather on the run up to the event being extreme, we were privileged to be able to continue the tradition of our games with our new Chieftain. There was another record entry for all events. Our well established 800 metre Scottish medal race, sponsored by ourselves this year, again proved extremely successful as did our newest event, the 100 yard Scottish Medal, sponsored by the Perth Arms of Dunkeld.
With competition so fierce last year, we will once again hope for a great turn out. But for those not feeling so energetic, there’s always the world famous haggis eating contest cooked by the Taybank Hotel is worth the admission on its own to watch (sponsored by Dunkeld Butchers.) As in the past, a bottle of whisky will be given to the furthest travelled visitor to the games, so please sign in at the Secretary’s tent; you never know, it could be you.
This year’s proceedings will officially start with the Blairgowrie, Rattray & District Pipe Band who will be playing at the Cross in Dunkeld at 11:45 a.m. The traditional march to the park will start at the north car park at 12:30 p.m. prompt, led by our chieftain Thomas Steuart Fothringham who is very capably carrying forward his father’s time-honored role.
As the new games chairman, I would like to thank out-going chairman Rae Pattillo for his five years of hard work and excellent leadership. He accomplished many improvements to the games park which will be enjoyed by everyone in the years to come.
The committee and I look forward to welcoming you in 2011 and beyond.
