Letter from the Chairman 2012
The 2011 Gathering was an extremely successful event. The lack of sunshine may have been partly responsible for a slight drop in attendance but regardless of our climate, this Gathering will continue to be a highlight on the calendar for folks both near and far.
The 2012 event promises to be as entertaining and competitive as in previous years. The less energetic among us may prefer to cheer on the contestants or participate in our regular world famous haggis eating contest – cooked by the Taybank Hotel and sponsored by Dunkeld Butchers. As usual, a bottle of whisky will be awarded to the furthest travelled visitor to the Games, so please sign in at the Secretary’s tent – you might be lucky!
The Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band will open the proceedings by playing at the Cross in Dunkeld at 11.45am and the traditional march to the park, led by our chieftain Thomas Steuart Fothringham, will commence at the north car park at 12.30pm.
Having completed my first year as Chairman, I would like to express my gratitude to the committee whose support and hard work has helped to make my workload that bit lighter.
The committee and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 25th August for another memorable day at Birnam Highland Games.
