Letter from the Chairman 2014
The games of 2013 were another great success, with good crowds enjoying a fantastic day's entertainment and more TV coverage, this time from Australia. Who can forget the wee female presenter trying to force down the haggis and failing miserably?!
The 2014 games mark our 150th anniversary. To celebrate we will have balloons and hats for the kids and we've commissioned a commemorative whisky decanter, the first of which has been donated to Radio Tay's "Cash For Kids" charity auction in November.
The Games day itself starts at 11.45 at the cross in Dunkeld where Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band will strike up for a few tunes. At 12.30 they start their traditional march from the north car park through Dunkeld over the bridge and onto the games park, led by our Chieftain Thomas Steuart Fothringham and myself. This year we are very fortunate to be joined by the Atholl Highlanders who add greatly to the spectacle, as they are of course the only private army in Britain.
Once again it falls to me to hand out the many thanks for all the hard work put in by the committee and our helpers in the bar, on the car park, at the gates and finally to our patrons and sponsors whose generosity makes it possible run these games.
Be sure a warm welcome awaits you at Birnam games.
